Sherry Shen
Violinist Sherry Shen was born in China and completed her Masters of Music at the Nanjing Normal University, studying under Professor Jie Tao. After completing her degree she performed nationwide in Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Singapore with the Jiang Zha Gang Chinese Opera. She was also second principal violinist in China’s first professional chamber ensemble, the Alexander Chamber Orchestra, in Nanjing.
Sherry moved to London in 2018 to study at the Royal College of Music under Leonid Kerbel where she graduated with her Masters in Performance degree in 2020. In addition to performing with the Royal College of Music Symphony Orchestra, she has appeared regularly with the London City Philharmonic, the London Film Orchestra, the London Firebird Orchestra, the Hornton Chamber Orchestra, the Goodensemble Orchestra, and the St. James Sinfonietta. An experienced chamber musician, she was also a member of the RCM’s Aeolian String Quartet.
Sherry is now a full-time professional musician working in London as a performing violinist and teacher, orchestral player, recording artist and passionate chamber music player, specialising in coaching chamber ensembles.
An enthusiastic and passionate teacher she has over ten years of experience with a wide range of learners and is the co-founder of the Nanjing Children’s Chamber Orchestra, holding regular summer and winter music camps for young musicians. Sherry specialises in the Suzuki methodology for young players whilst understanding the importance of music reading from an early age. She strives to combine the two school of thought once pupil’s aural skills and musical perception is at the appropriate level, achieving consistently high results with all her students.
